skincare ingredients aha bha

The beauty industry often goes crazy over certain ingredients and Hyaluronic Acid is certainly one of them. It’s often hailed as the fountain of youth and a quick look at its abilities makes me understand why (hopefully by the end of this post, you would understand as well!)

Hyaluronic acids have the unique ability to attract and hold moisture and a lot of it too.( one gram can hold up to 6 litres of water!) this unique ability makes it perfect ingredient for moisturising products. It will attract moisture to the surface of the skin and keep it hydrated which leads to plumper, luminous and of course moisturised skin. But it gets even better, with more moisture in the skin, it takes on a plumping effect which effectively makes fine lines and wrinkles appear diminished.

It is this moisturising/anti-ageing ability that makes it so popular. As we age our skin naturally loses the ability to hold moisture as it once did which leads to a decrease in plumpness and firmness so imagine what a hyaluronic acid moisturiser can do for ageing skin!.

Products

Look out for products containing HA or its other forms: sodium hyaluronate, hydrolysed hyaluronic acid and sodium acetyl hyaluronate. Especially for moisturising products. Be sure you check the ingredients list to ensure it’s within the first 5 ingredients as this means they are responsible for what the product claims to do.
